Not an authority on anything

keelcard2

This year saw the passing of the iconic fortean writer and adventurer John Keel.

As a tribute to his friend, Doug Skinner, writer, musician, SAJ contributor and all-round renaissance man has set up a web site to gather up the mountains of memories and Keeliana that he rescued from John’s apartment, such as this great business card. Every fortean should carry one.

I visited Keel’s apartment only once, in the late ’90s, so I know what a brave man Doug must be to rummage amongst the mountains of books and rubbish piled up in there!

  1. 1 Doug Skinner

Thanks, Mark! Let me add, though, that I was part of a team — which also included John’s sister Cheryl, his niece Nicole, Larry “Ratso” Sloman, Anthony Matt, and Angela Alverson — who salvaged John’s papers from his apartment before the landlord took possession.

And the website is, of course, based not only on his papers, but on 19 years of friendship with John. These days, I’m filling out his bibliography, adding in much of his prolific non-fortean work.

Cheers, and keep up the attractive strangeness!
