Strange Birth

skull.jpgSAJ2 photographic contributor Maud Larsson is currently displaying her haunting and beautiful photographs at The Grant Museum of Comparative Anatomy at UCL, Gower St, London, until 3rd May 2005.

The images are of specimens from the Grant collection and are displayed in situ. The museum itself is one of London's hidden treasures; a wonderful jumble of bone, hair and pickled flesh that retains the authentic whiff of its Victorian origins.

Strange Attractor Journal Two

Finally, over a year after the first edition and following several days and very long nights of intensive labour from the SAJ crew, Journal Two is ready. It has been delivered to the printers - all 432 pages of it - and should be back in mid-April.

Alison Hutchinson and myself are very proud of this new edition: it's a monster alright, but we love it! Taking off where J1 ended, it leads us into some entirely new territory, while revisiting areas that may be familiar in surprising new ways.

The highlights are too numerous to mention, but it features work from both veteran authors and some who will be new to you. We travel from an18th century alchemical lab to the mountains of present day Nepal, via ancient Peru, Halifax and the remains of a ruined future London. En route we encounter charlatans and visonaries, poets, madmen, phantom assailants, fungal sentiences, voodoo priestesses, surrealists, fantasists and trickster deities. By the time you've digested it all we'll hopefully be ready with another one.

Because of the increased girth and resulting postage increases, the price has had to go up to £14 inc p&p, but I hope that you'll find this reasonable.

As before, the first 200 copies sold will be in beautiful collectors' editions, hand stamped and numbered by us. Unexpectedly I found an extra box of Journal One with collectors' covers, about 20. Now's the last chance you'll get to order one, please email me separately about these so that I can keep track of numbers.

There will be a launch event sometime in late April, details to be announced nearer the time.

On the 15th March 2005, Madrid, Spain will see the launch of its official "Homenaje", (Homage), CD Album, a tribute to the spirit and energy of the people who live in the city.

The music on the CD invites the listener to take a look and interpret the spirit of the city since 110304. The CD Album will be available to buy from the official Homenaje Madrid website as of 15.03.05.

The CD features artists including: Gintas K, Leafcutter John, Silvania, Francisco Lopez, Tim Hecker, Jansky Noise, Solypsis, Hamish Binns, Jaap Blonk, Wolfmangler, Rec_Overflow and many more.

url: http://www.110304.com.es

As an expat (Mancunican) living in Madrid this last year I was shocked by what went on, so I decided to make a Homage CD / Album dedicate to the people and the spirit of the City. On the CD I tried to pull all sorts of music in mostly from Spain but also by other nationals who live here and who were directly effected by what has happend in the City including the Bombings.

So finally this CD together contains field recordings of Madrid, local Punk, experimental and music concrete from the likes of Franscico Lopez and well many, many more, the CD is a snap-shot of the City and the last 12 months....

We are trying indirectly i.e outside of Spain to promote the Album for tomorrow 1 year after 11M, and wonder if you can help. The Homenaje CD will be in manufacture on the 15th March 2005, this is the first day after the official 3 days of mourning here in Madrid, we expect to have copies within about 2-3 weeks of this date, but we will start pre-selling the CD on our website as of the 15th

Tomorrow we have interviews on Radio in Madrid, and air-play on several Spanish stations, I'd appreciate it if you could mention the CD album today / tomorrow to anyone or on your web-pages, or if you know anyone in press or on radio please spread the word about the project to them!

The album is a double, with well over 120 min. electronic, punk, noise, and everything else inbetween, for euro 11.03 plus postage, i think this is deal no matter where you are!!!

Theatre Of The Eternal Drone

from the Cube...

Cube Microplex, Bristol: 18.03.05
@ The Cube Microplex: Dove Street South, Bristol BS2 8JB.
with special guests Kosmische + The Amal Gamal Ensemble + Grok
8pm / £5

Enter the dream house! We'll take you by the hand through a world of minimilist mantras and galactic intervals, Velvet distortion and isolationist drones in a monumental evening of statis, film and live performance.

Tonight we're joined by London's legendary krautrock utopia, the KOSMISCHE CLUB, who'll man the decks with deep sound (NEU!, CAN, POPOL VUH, FAUST) from the outer reaches of the Kosmos.

They bring the notorious AMAL GAMAL ENSEMBLE in tow featuring Stephen Thrower (MATMOS / CYCLOBE / COIL), Dave Knight (ARKKON/LYDIA LUNCH) and Karl Blake (SHOCKHEADED PETERS) among its members, whose hypnotic and hermetic blend of wild improvisation, kraut rock and melody will transport you along the cosmic autobahn. Earlier in the evening GROK will be performing a live improvised soundtrack of drones, tones and arpeggiated motorisms.

Come drone with us.
